A good burger, scotch and reflections on 9/11 in NY

Relaxon September 10th, 2011• by  •No Comments

When my fiancé suggested we go to New York over the weekend, the weekend of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, I was not excited about the idea. Visiting heads of states, tourists and a city reflecting on a horrific event sounded like a nightmare. Shockingly, she prevailed and we landed in NY last night.

We made our way down to Stone street in lower Manhattan last night to enjoy a beer and a really good burger. After that we sat outside on Water and Wall Street and enjoyed a good single malt as we discussed the fact that I have a better handle on relationships and what makes them work- oh and to my friends it’s going to be a few weeks before Cindy makes any great salsa for our College football Saturdays – it’s a relationship thing!

The next morning feeling a little groggy from one to many scotch’s I hit the gym to sweat out the left over scotch in my system. After a quick shower we were off to Bubby’s for a mid morning breakfast. It was fantastic, if you find your self in lower Manhattan, specifically on the corner of Huson and North Moore, stop in you will not be disappointed.

After breakfast we took a walk to the site of the 9/11 attack, you could not help but become reflective about the last 10 years. We walked through Battery park and saw many folks out and events to remember 9/11. Across the harbor the Statue of Liberty was standing in all her glory, ferries were departing to Ellis and Staten Islands and people were enjoying their Saturday. Then it hit me what is great about our country and specifically my fellow countrymen in NY – we may get knocked down, but we bounce back and get on with it!

We get on with the things that make our country great, college football, beer, baseball, debates about differences, worshipping as we choose regardless of our faith, and expressing our right to express our views. What Bin Laden and the other terrioists will never understand is you can not destroy a country’s values and culture by striking physical assets such as the twin towers – what NY has shown me is they suffered a unimaginable loss 10 years ago, but they did not lose their heart, soul and values and this no terrorist can ever take.

It’s been a great trip, more like a long good scotch that should be sipped and savored! Thanks NY for reminding what’s great about the American Spirit!

Spicy health benefits

Relaxon November 6th, 2009• by  •No Comments

It turns out that a pinch of red pepper or dash of curry powder not only turns up the heat to boost flavors in dishes, but it also can add a helping of health benefits, too.Nutrition research supports new reasons to season dishes with herbs and spices including cinnamon, ginger, oregano, red pepper and yellow curry powder. Blueberries, pomegranates and other deeply colored fruits may be famous for their high antioxidant content; but it turns out that some spices rank really high, too.One teaspoon of cinnamon has the disease fighting antioxidant power of a full cup of pomegranate juice or half cup of blueberries. The specific kind of antioxidant compounds found in cinnamon called polyphenols have been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels and fight inflammation which can increase risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Mr. President – Suggested Reading “Atlas Shrugged”

Relaxon October 31st, 2009• by  •No Comments

Atlas Shrugged was my first Ann Rand book – not exactly relaxing but good :)  Now if I could get our friends in the White House and Congress to read it we would be golden :)  A lady ahead of her time…..

‘Ayn Rand and the World She Made’

By ANNE C. HELLER

Reviewed by ADAM KIRSCH

Anne C. Heller’s biography conveys the conviction and odd charisma of Ayn Rand, whose individualist message is still resonant for American conservatives.

California on Sale – I love it……

Relaxon August 27th, 2009• by  •No Comments

To reduce government waste and raise money, the state is selling thousands of items including old cars — some have Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s signature on the visor–at what it’s calling the Great California Garage Sale at a Sacramento warehouse on Friday and Saturday, and on Ebay and Craigslist.

Leave it to Firescope’s development team after the huge success with our Business Service Management products that we brought to market last year, the guys decided to tackle the CMDB market to make it simpler and more affordable than ever to own a CMDB solution. What’s really cool is like FireScope’s BSM products you can download their CMDB product and try it out for 28 days with full support prior to purchasing – kinda of a try before you buy approach. So easy – try it at http://cmdb.firescope.com , lots of good info about their CMDB. Here we go again J

Happy New Year

Relaxon January 1st, 2009• by  •No Comments

Happy New Year! I believe 2009 will be a fantastic year for all of us. Certainly better than 2008 J this morning I spent time with my young daughter and she shared this clip with me about education – I thought you would find it of interest. The video gives a glimpse into the way her generation thinks about education and I think the challenges we will have to deal with in the future. The amount of information these kids are dealing with is unbelievable and growing exponentially and yet in many cases we continue to teach our kids using methods that do not consider our information age…. Take a look and see what you think.

A little good news

Relax, Taking Care of Businesson October 27th, 2008• by  •No Comments

So the markets continue to gyrate, and the media is announcing almost hourly all the bad news – massive layoffs, record foreclosures -well you get the picture. So I thought I’d share some good news about 200 billion dollars worth of good news. Our country consumes about 285 million barrels of oil a month just a few months ago we were paying $140.00 plus per barrel – Guess what the cost per barrel is now? in the mid $60.00 dollar range – thats over 17 billion dollars per month or over $200 billion on an annualized basis in savings that is staying in our economy not going overseas – btw that is more than the President’s stimulus package approved earlier this year. I thought you should know as I’m sure CNBC, CNN and the rest of the media are way to busy bringing you all the bad news to have time to give you some good news :) The economy will recover even if the media talks us into a recession – the key is to stay positive!

Steve
